KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended the Malaysia Economic Forum (MEF) 2026 today (Feb 5), reaffirming Sarawak’s continued engagement in national economic development discussions.

The forum, themed ‘Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia’, served as a national platform bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and civil society representatives to deliberate on the country’s economic direction in line with the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

The Premier’s Office in a statement said discussions at the forum focused on policy execution and outcome-driven strategies aimed at delivering tangible benefits to the public, amid ongoing global economic challenges.

The event also sought to strengthen collaboration between the federal government, state governments and the private sector in accelerating sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The forum featured a keynote address by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with the official launch of the MEF 2026.

Among the key highlights were thematic presentations and discussions across two main tracks, covering Malaysia’s aspirations as an artificial intelligence-driven economy, sustainability and energy transition, local technology and innovation development, as well as healthcare system reform.

Other sessions addressed trade and investment strategies for economic diversification and global market expansion, talent development, housing sector reform, and national preparedness in response to an ageing population and shifting demographic trends.

“Abang Johari’s participation reflects the state’s active role in contributing to national economic development, while reaffirming its readiness to continue working closely with the federal government to strengthen economic resilience and ensure balanced and sustainable growth,” the statement added.
