KUCHING: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) has strongly denied appointing any individuals, agents or third parties to offer free tertiary education opportunities under the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES).
In a statement released on Wednesday (June 25), the Ministry stressed that neither it nor any government agency under the Sarawak administration has authorised external parties to act on its behalf in promoting or offering free education programmes.
“The Ministry takes seriously the information received regarding individuals or groups promising free education in exchange for payment or certain favours.
“Such actions are unauthorised and can be considered attempted fraud,” the statement said.
MEITD warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against any parties found to be misusing the Ministry’s or the Sarawak Government’s name for personal gain.
The Ministry also reminded the public to remain vigilant and to avoid falling prey to such offers, especially from individuals falsely claiming to represent the Government in matters related to free education.
“Any suspicions of fraud or misleading information should be promptly reported to the relevant authorities,” it added.
The public is further advised that any official announcements regarding the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme will only be issued through MEITD’s official communication channels and the official portals of the Sarawak Government.
