AS screen time dominates childhood, and attention spans continue to shrink, many parents are seeking effective ways to build sharper, more resilient young minds.

One Kuching-based education centre believes the key lies in unlocking the brain’s hidden potential starting with the five senses.

PolyGrow, through its MemoHack brain development programme under the #Geniusmindacademy brand, Memoschool Kuching, offers a science-based, hands-on training system designed to activate children’s sensory and cognitive abilities during their most critical years of growth.

Wilfred Chai

According to PolyGrow co-founder, Wilfred Chai, MemoHack is a science-based, hands-on training system that helps activate children’s sensory and cognitive abilities during their most crucial developmental years.

The programme, he said, is designed for children aged five to fifteen, and has already seen remarkable results in improving attention, emotional control, confidence and memory.

“Each child responds to stimulation differently depending on which sense is more dominant.

“MemoHack uses brainwave activation, sensory training, memory techniques and even character development which are all tailored to each child’s needs,” he said.

He added that amid growing concerns over excessive gadget use and declining focus among young learners, MemoHack presents a compelling alternative that not only supports academic learning but also nurtures confidence, empathy and self-discipline.

Sarawak Tribune sat down with Chai to understand how the programme works, the science behind it, and why early intervention is key to shaping stronger, more resilient young minds.

Sarawak Tribune: Can you share what exactly is MemoHack and which age group it is designed for?

Chai: This programme helps activate the five senses, namely smell, vision, touch, taste and hearing, to stimulate brain function. Each child responds differently, depending on which sense activates first.

The focus is on enhancing brain power, energy, and speed, particularly during the critical developmental window between the ages of five and fifteen. After fifteen, it becomes harder to help them activate their potential fully but depends on their brainwave through brain test analysis.

However, if the child is about five years old, they often respond quicker. That’s because they haven’t developed many emotional blocks or distractions yet. They’re more open, and their brains are more ready to receive input. In families with siblings, we often find the youngest activates the fastest, but we always remind parents not to compare, because every child develops at their own pace.

As PolyGrow Memoschool Kuching offers trial classes for the children, what do children actually experience during this class?

During this session, children undergo a brainwave activation where they wear headphones to listen to specific frequencies that stimulate their brains and prepare them to respond. They also go through practice cards we provided using the blindfold to activate children’s five senses. Some children activate more than one sense in their first class, while others may begin with just one. Every child is different.

While the children are doing their activities, parents attend the insights session that could help them understand more about how to develop a dynamic brain. Our consultant, who has over 20 years of experience in education, walks them through how the programme works and what to expect.

Is the Brain Test analysis session part of the trial?

No. The brainwave scan requires more time and is conducted in a separate session. We usually schedule it individually and review the results with parents before or afterward.

The brain test is a core component of the MemoHack programme, enabling trainers and parents to better understand a child’s character, dominant receptors, concentration capacity and memory levels.

We also provide a detailed brain test report analysis and a one-to-one consultation session, so parents can better understand their children and work together with us as a team on this growing journey.

For this programme, what kinds of changes have you observed in students?

We’ve seen amazing transformations. For example, a child came in recently who seemed completely normal but very quiet. When we did the brain test, we found out that her brain was almost in a sleep state – barely active. After talking to her parents, we learned she was emotionally withdrawn due to a lack of engagement at home. However, when she started to join our programme, she slowly began to open up.

Additionally, we also had a child with autism who used to run around restaurants uncontrollably. After three months in our programme, he could sit and listen through our briefing. His parents were thrilled.

This programme has helped enhance children’s focus, attention, memory, confidence, sleep quality and social and emotional development. They may need more time and attention, but we’ve seen good improvements in children. The results are very encouraging.

Children during their trial class

Since there are many children struggling with focus and attention, will participating in the programme help them?

We believe that a lot of children today can’t focus because they spend too much time on screens such as iPads, games, cartoons. They’re overstimulated visually, which makes it hard to concentrate on books or studies. Our programme helps retrain their attention span and improve their ability to focus.

Do you also address personal development, such as confidence or social skills?

Yes, in this programme syllabus we are building mature character that is related to talking and learning behaviour, punctuality, self love etc. Practising the words of affirmation after brain waves can build their confidence through their subconscious mind when they are in the state of happiness, relaxation and positivity. These three elements are the key elements of training a dynamic brain.

For example, one of our students loved piano but she did not believe in herself and lacked confidence to perform in front of many people on the stage. After being in our programme, she gained confidence and went on to represent Malaysia in an international competition and placed among the top three. That was a proud moment for us and her parents.

What does the full MemoHack programme include?

This programme runs for one year and includes 96 lessons which are eight lessons a month, with each session lasting 40 minutes. Every week, students attend one physical class and two online classes. Parents also receive 14 ParentHack online lessons, designed to help them engage and communicate better with their children.

This programme syllabus also includes photographic memory training. By enhancing their brain stamina, improving connectivity, and activating their senses, children will be able to memorise things from their daily life easily and effortlessly – while also improving their overall learning ability at the same time.

Can children continue beyond the first year?

Yes, they can. We recommend a minimum of one year to see results, but students can continue into a second or third year if parents want to let their children in this environment, this can let them grow better too. The syllabus for those levels is different. Here in Kuching, we haven’t implemented the second-year module yet, but it’s in the pipeline. Our Memohack Syllabus focuses on the ratio of 5:6:5 to develop a dynamic brain.

Is there a trial class for those interested?

For the trial class, we usually charge RM100 but now, we are doing a promotion where it only costs RM39 until further notice.

How can parents register their child and what should they expect?

Parents can contact us through 0183938941 or DM our social media genius mind academic Kuching for more information. Each trial class accommodates 10 to 15 children, facilitated by four trainers. We will open morning and afternoon sessions on Sunday if one of the classes is full. The children’s trial session and the Parents Insights session are conducted simultaneously. The end of the trial class, children will demo in front of parents with blindfold to show which senses are activated.
