BINTANGOR: The police in Meradong detained five men in two separate raids over two days, sending a strong message against drug abuse in the district.
Meradong District Police chief Deputy Superintendent Tansli Merling said the operations were conducted by a task force from Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) under Ops Tapis Khas, an ongoing crackdown on drug activities.
“In the first raid on 30 Oct at 12.10 pm, two men aged 39 and 26 were arrested at a longhouse in Bintangor.
“Urine tests confirmed both were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and neither had prior criminal or drug records.
“Meanwhile, the second raid, conducted on 31 Oct at 11.40 pm, saw three men aged 30, 29 and 24 arrested at an unnumbered house in Bintangor area.
“Urine tests confirmed they too were positive for the same drugs, with one suspect having a prior criminal record,” he said in a statement.
Tansli added that all five suspects are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to 2 years’ imprisonment if convicted.
“Police would not compromise with anyone involved in drugs, whether as users or distributors. Meradong IPD will continue to intensify operations and monitoring across the district,” he said.
Police also urged the public to provide information on drug activities to the Bintangor Police Station at 084-693222.
