MIRI: Four-star Meritz Hotel has entered into a partnership with MyKey Global, a new hospitality and property management platform, in a move aimed at redefining guest experience in the city.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks MyKey Global’s first collaboration with a hotel in Sarawak.

It follows an extensive refurbishment at Meritz Hotel which involved upgrades to all guest rooms, food and beverage outlets, the city’s largest ballroom, and the building’s façade.

Located in the heart of the city, the 290-room property boasts a 2,500-seat pillarless ballroom – the largest of its kind in the city – nine additional function rooms and a café.

The hotel management says the partnership will strengthen its ability to attract both business and leisure travellers at a time when Miri is positioning itself as a regional growth hub.

John Teo Peng Yew, chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels Sarawak Chapter and Director of PR and Sales Advisor for Meritz Hotel.

“This collaboration sets the stage for a new era of innovation and service excellence,” said John Teo, chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels Sarawak Chapter and Director of PR and Sales Adviser for Meritz Hotel.

“Together with MyKey Global, we aim to raise hospitality standards and help showcase Miri as a destination of choice.”

The announcement comes as the city undergoes rapid transformation through large-scale infrastructure and property projects.

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, RM123.5 million has been allocated for 14 development initiatives designed to enhance public amenities and improve connectivity.

Among the flagship projects is the Kenyalang Smart City, a 543-acre integrated development adjacent to Curtin University Malaysia, which will unfold over the next two decades.

Other major undertakings include the Miri Times Square project, featuring a Grade A green corporate tower, as well as residential developments such as Richmond Park and Amfield Luak.

Against this backdrop, Meritz Hotel’s tie-up with MyKey Global is being seen as timely.

As new developments reshape the city skyline and attract a growing number of visitors, the hospitality sector is expected to play a central role in supporting Miri’s ambitions to become a smart, green and resort-style city.

“With more tourists, investors and professionals expected to arrive in the coming years, demand for quality accommodation will grow,” Teo said. “We see this partnership as a chance not only to strengthen Meritz Hotel’s brand but also to contribute to Miri’s wider transformation story.”
