KUCHING: A local man with an extensive drug history was rrested on Saturday for allegedly possessing suspected syabu drugs worth RM572.
Based on gathered intelligence and public tip-offs, the arrest was made at around 2:10 pm in front of a house at Tabuan Hilir.
Kuching police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the 50-year-old suspect was stopped for inspections as he was believed to be involved in illicit activities.
“Further checks led to the discovery of eight plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.
“The drugs weighing 5.20 grammes have an estimated street value of RM572,” he said.
Background checks found that the suspect had four prior records – one under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and three under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
Alexson stated that the suspect, who also tested positive for drugs, will be remanded until October 2 to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for up to five years imprisonment and caning up to nine lashes, upon conviction.
Alexson assured that police will not compromise with anyone found involved in distributing and possessing drugs.
