BINTANGOR: A local man’s attempt to stash suspected methamphetamine under a chair was foiled during a narcotics raid on Tuesday.

Codenamed ‘Ops Tapis’, the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) raided an unnumbered house at around 1:30 pm along Jalan Bunga Raya here.

Meradong Police Chief, DSP Tansli Mering, said inspections led to the discovery of seven plastic packets containing illicit substances concealed beneath a chair in the house.

“The team arrested the 27-year-old suspect to facilitate investigations, and seized the drugs, weighing 6.60 grammes with a market value of about RM660.

“Background checks found that the suspect has no prior record, while his urine test returned negative for drugs,” he said.

Tansli stated that the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries imprisonment of up to five years, and caning up to nine strokes, upon conviction.

He assured that police take drug-related offences seriously and will not compromise with any party involved.

Members of the public are advised to report any drug activities to the Bintangor Police Station at 084-693222.
