Methamphetamine seized in raid, suspect remanded

MIRI: A 37-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of drug distribution following a police raid in Taman Permai, Bandar Baru Permyjaya, Miri, on Friday.

Miri District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed that officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters apprehended the suspect at approximately 11.30 am.

During the operation, police discovered and seized a total of 5.92 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of RM652.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

It carries a minimum sentence of two years’ imprisonment and a maximum of five years, along with a minimum of three strokes and up to nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The suspect is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Following the arrest, the suspect was brought before the Miri Magistrates’ Court for a remand application.
