KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) on Monday has confirmed it has received official notification from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) regarding FIFA’s decision to suspend seven heritage players for 12 months.
Among those affected are three Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) players – Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel, who are barred from competing in any Malaysian League matches during the suspension period.
The ruling is seen as a setback for JDT, who now face the challenge of continuing their domestic and regional campaigns without the trio.
MFL said further action will only be taken once FIFA delivers its verdict on FAM’s appeal, which seeks to overturn or reduce the suspension.
The case has cast a shadow over Malaysian football, with several clubs left waiting on FIFA’s final decision.
