KUCHING: Malaysia’s junior and youth muaythai squad arrived in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, Sept 11, to compete at the 2025 IFMA Youth World Championships on Yas Island.
The 21-athlete team is captained by Sarawak-based fighter, Mikail “Miki” Ghazali of Rentap Muay Thai Gym, who will lead the contingent where clubmate, Chicha, is part of the younger members of the delegation.
Supporting them is Mikail’s elder brother, Johan ‘Jojo’ Ghazali, who serves as his coach and cornerman.
The tournament, running from Sept 10-19, is the largest youth edition in IFMA history, bringing together athletes aged eight to 17 from over 100 nations.
Beyond the competitive bouts, the event also features wai kru and mai muay performances, Para muaythai, and muay talay contests.
Malaysia’s squad represents a cross-section of young talent from across the country, including rising names from Sarawak.
Their arrival in Abu Dhabi marks the start of final preparations before the draw and match schedules are confirmed.
