GEDONG: A modest tidal bore, or ‘anak benak’, added a gentle yet memorable touch to the 2025 Gedong Regatta, drawing smiles and quiet amazement from the crowd.
Races were briefly paused as the small wave rolled upriver, creating ripples that caught the attention of those lining the riverbank.
Many took out their phones to capture the moment, as the rare natural occurrence became an unexpected highlight of the day.
For both locals and visitors, even the smaller ‘benak’ served as a reminder of Sarawak’s unique river phenomena adding charm to the festive regatta atmosphere.
Organisers welcomed the pause, turning it into a quiet celebration of local heritage.
Though subtle and lasting only a couple of minutes, the mini bore wave stirred appreciation for nature’s rhythm amidst the sporting excitement.
