KUCHING: As Malaysians usher in the festive seasons of Kaamatan and Gawai, Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has called on the nation to celebrate these cherished harvest festivals in the true spirit of Madani.
Extending his greetings to Malaysians, particularly the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Rungus, Iban, Bidayuh, Selako communities and other ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak, Aaron highlighted the deep cultural and symbolic significance of these festivals.
“Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak are not only rich cultural heritage celebrations filled with customs and traditions, but they also symbolise the spirit of gratitude, unity, and togetherness among our diverse Malaysian society,” he said in his official Facebook post.
Aaron emphasised the relevance of the “Segulai Sejalai” which means walking together in unity — is a symbol of the nation’s strength as a multiracial and multiethnic nation.
“It is not merely a slogan, but a core value that should be instilled in the hearts of every citizen, especially the younger generation who will inherit Malaysia’s future.
“I call on all Malaysians to celebrate these festivals in the spirit of Malaysia Madani, by embracing respect in diversity, preserving our cultural heritage, and strengthening bonds of unity as the foundation of a strong and united nation.
Aaron ended his greetings with, “Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai. Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan.”
