CYBERJAYA: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has called for a thorough, fair and transparent investigation into the alleged murder of a 20-year-old female university student from Kuching.
The victim, Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, was found dead in her dormitory room at the Mutiara Ville condominium here on Tuesday morning (Jun 24).
“I believe and hope that the investigation will be conducted with integrity and transparency so that justice can be served,” she said in a Facebook post today.
Before heading to Putrajaya, Nancy visited the victim’s family to offer her condolences.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara over this deeply saddening loss.
“May they be granted strength and resilience during this difficult time,” she said, adding that she prayed for all matters concerning the family to be eased.
Meanwhile, police have revealed that the victim’s ATM card was used by a male suspect to withdraw money after her death.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said six transactions were traced at locations around Kuala Lumpur.
The ATM card, along with the victim’s laptop, phone, and cash, were among the items reported missing when her body was discovered.
Norhizam confirmed that a manhunt is underway to track down the suspect, believed to be the main person involved in the case, which is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
A post-mortem conducted at Serdang Hospital confirmed that the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head. There were no signs of sexual assault.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact investigating officer ASP Mohd Husny Hussein at 012-9307860.
