KUCHING: The Ministry of National Unity condemned the recent incident at Central i-City Shah Alam, where a Dayak salesperson was verbally abused and threatened with handcuffs over a 50 sen coin.
Its minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang described the act as inhumane and a violation of the core values upheld by the Rukun Negara.
“Even more disheartening, this incident involved racially charged language that has no place in our multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
“Every individual in this country has the right to be respected, regardless of their ethnic background, religion, or social status,” he said in a statement.
Following this viral incident, Aaron has urged the police to immediately investigate and take appropriate action against the perpetrator.
“My ministry will not compromise on any form of racial insults against any community in this country. Such racist and uncivilized actions must be taken seriously.
“I would also like to remind all Malaysians to continue safeguarding the harmony and unity that we have long built.
“Every individual plays an important role in ensuring that our country continues to progress with love, respect, and mutual understanding among one another.” he added.
Earlier, a social media post went viral featuring a female salesperson known as Carol (not her real name), who claimed the incident began when a man, along with his wife and child, ordered ice cream that had an excess of 50 sen.
After processing the order, Carol simply asked if the customer had any coins to ease the payment process.
However, this question caused the man, who appeared to be in his 40s, to suddenly lose his temper.
He claimed to be a member of a uniformed body and used his position to threaten Carol.
