Stabbing incident

KUCHING: The public has been urged not to circulate photos or reveal the identities of students involved in the recent stabbing incident at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya.

Minister for Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri reminded that sharing such images violates child protection laws and could cause further psychological and emotional harm to those affected.

She said that although the incident took place in a school and falls outside her ministry’s direct jurisdiction, the welfare and rights of children remain protected under existing legislation.

“This incident happened in a school, which is outside our ministry’s jurisdiction. However, since it involves children, there are laws under the Child Act that must be followed. I was informed that photos have been circulated on social media,” she said when met by reporters at the World Zakat and Waqf Forum 2025 at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre yesterday (Oct 14).

“My request, as the minister responsible for children’s affairs, is for the sharing of such images to stop immediately, as it is not appropriate under the Child Act.

“We must respect the law so as not to further affect those involved. That’s all I can say since the police have already taken action against the student.”

For the record, a Form Four female student died after she was allegedly stabbed by a male student in an incident at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, earlier yesterday.
