SIBU: Destiny for Children (DFC) will be adopted by the Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Ministry (KPWK), said Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

Tiang said this move is aimed at facilitating the disbursement of funds to the association, which provides education to stateless children, many of whom are Sarawakians without birth certificates.

“I’m very happy to announce to the public that KPWK, under its Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, is going to adopt DFC under its wings, so that they can provide funding.

“I think this is wonderful news that should be shared with the public,” he said in his speech when officiating the Sarawak Central Zone Electrical and Electronic Goods Sales and Services Association’s donation handover to DFC at the centre here today.

Tiang added that these efforts show Sarawak’s strong emphasis on education, particularly in ensuring it is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.

Meanwhile, regarding the donation, Tiang said the association’s contribution to DFC is a meaningful gesture of love and sharing.

“I think this is a very important point for our Sibu community. We are willing to share, and we are willing to contribute back to our community,” he said.

Earlier, the organising chairperson of the event, Councillor Michelle Law, said the programme was held in conjunction with Charity 5.0.

“After learning about the incredible work done by Destiny for Children Association Sibu, our committee was inspired to sponsor a part of their Living Skills Programme, specifically by contributing cooking and baking station equipment, electrical appliances worth RM3,000, to support this initiative.

“This contribution is more than just equipment; it’s an investment in the children’s self-reliance, confidence and future opportunities.

“Through this, they are not only learning essential life skills but also opening doors to potential career paths and personal empowerment,” she said.
