KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is waiting for results of police investigation after a woman reported that her daughter was hurt and neglected by a child care centre (taska) in Putrajaya recently.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that the case is being handled by the cops following the arrest of a suspect.
“The police have already taken further action on the suspect. We are currently waiting for the results of the investigation,” she told a press conference after attending a Kasih Ramadan programme with her ministry at Pullman Hotel yesterday (April 9).
She said one of the requirements of a child care centre (taska) is to install CCTV (closed-circuit television) and ensure its functionality.
The minister was commenting on the woman’s claim, which went viral on social media, where the taska based in Putrajaya allegedly left the woman’s one-year-old baby in a room alone without supervision and was allegedly harmed by other children.
Nancy said the registered child care centre will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Following that, she said her ministry had already established guidelines for staff in child care centres and had urged all care centre operators to strictly adhere to the guidelines.
Nancy, who is also Santubong MP, has informed her ministry to conduct spot checks on registered child care centres to ensure operators comply with the ministry’s regulations.
“We will look into some guidelines and see what needs to be improved and amended.
“This is to ensure the staff and child care centre operators determine what they should and should not do when taking care of a child,” she added.
