KUCHING: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) is working relentlessly to ensure that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is at the forefront to facilitate the transformation of Sarawak.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said MEITD aims to equip youth with the skills needed to thrive in a digital and rapidly changing world.
“MEITD advocates for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a preferred career pathway by expanding offerings that align education with industry needs, ensuring students gain practical skills for high-demand sectors.
“We are also focusing on producing a skilled and competent workforce by collaborating with industries and universities to align educational programmes with market needs while prioritising ongoing workforce development.”
Sagah said this in his speech read by Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis at the 4th Brunei Darussalam,Indonesia,Malaysia,Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference 2024 at Imperial Hotel, Wednesday (Dec 11).
He added that MEITD is also committed to raising English language proficiency across the education system, prioritising well-managed schools, excellent leadership, teacher quality, producing a safe, condusive learning environment, foster high appreciation of science among Sarawakian and more.
Earlier, he said that the theme of the conference, ‘Building a Sustainable Future Through
TVET’, brings together leaders, experts, and key stakeholders from various sectors and nations to discuss the ongoing transformation of TVET.
“With 32 distinguished speakers and panelists from Malaysia and beyond, this conference serves as an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and exploring collaboration opportunities in TVET talent development.”
Around 500 delegates from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other countries are attending the conference, while a total of 32 speakers and panellists from Malaysia and abroad, including Australia, Brunei, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom, are participating.
The conference is in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia (KESUMA), the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED), the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), i-CATS University College and Business Events Sarawak.
