SIMANGGANG: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has reaffirmed its commitment to disaster relief efforts by disbursing RM66,900 in aid to victims of a recent fire in Kampung Tengah, here.
The assistance, channelled through the Social Welfare Department (JKM), includes essential items such as pocket money, clothing, kitchen appliances, school supplies, building materials, and daily necessities.
The move demonstrates the government’s preparedness in addressing the immediate post-disaster needs of affected communities.
In addition, the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) has extended immediate relief of RM300 to each head of household under its Emergency Relief Fund, aimed at helping victims begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, commended the swift response and coordinated efforts of the Sri Aman District Disaster Management Committee, led by the District Officer of Sri Aman and overseen by the Resident of Sri Aman Division.
“The integrated and prompt coordination by various agencies under JPBD reflects the strength of our disaster management system.
This effort is commendable and should serve as a benchmark for district-level crisis management,” she said during her visit to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Dewan Seri Lemanak, Jalan Stawang, on Friday.
Lingga assemblywoman, Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, also joined the visit to offer moral support to victims and handed over a contribution of RM11,500, comprising both her special constituency allocation and a personal donation.
The fire, which occurred on July 30, affected eight houses and displaced 21 individuals from five families, all of whom are currently sheltering at the PPS.
