KUCHING: A minor fire broke out at a laboratory of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) early morning today due to a short circuit.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak Operations Command Centre said the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical wiring system, affecting about 10 per cent of lab.

“However, the incident did not affect the building’s structure,” it said in a statement.

Earlier, firefighters from the Batu Lintang fire station received a distress call at 5.19 am and were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found smoke coming out from a laboratory under the hospital’s Nuclear Department.

The firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze using a dry powder fire extinguisher before ensuring the area was safe.
