KUCHING: Former Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos says he is “deeply humbled” by recent praise from Deputy State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Idris Buang.

“I deeply appreciate his kind words, which I will remember for a long long time. Maybe a lifetime,” said Minos in response to Idris’ remarks made during a grant handover event for JKKKs and NGOs in Muara Tuang yesterday (July 26).

Idris, who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman, commended Minos for a decade of leadership that helped shape Kota Samarahan’s growth.

According to Idris, Minos has played an important role in driving the development of Kota Samarahan, especially in planning culturally-based tourism initiatives and strengthening the involvement of the local community.

“Datuk Peter Minos has contributed a lot to this area and on behalf of all the people of Muara Tuang, I would like to express my infinite gratitude for all his efforts and dedication,” Idris said.

Minos, who served as MPKS chairman from June 2015, said his time in Samarahan has been a great pleasure.

“I really like the people. They took me as one of them even though I am a Bidayuh from Bau.

“The Samarahan leaders were great too – warm and friendly. I greatly missed Samarahan and its people and leaders,” Minos said.

‘Samarahan had become part of me and my life. That is speaking from the bottom of my heart.

He stressed that his role was a duty, not just a title.

“To me, serving Samarahan as MPKS chairman was simply a job. I was paid for it. So it was a duty that I must do and do so as best as I could. I too owed it to Samarahan people, who were very cooperative and very respectful. So were the local leaders, like the many YBs and the Temenggong. Truly great and nice of them.”

Now chairing Serian Municipal Council, Minos pledged to continue the same approach.

“I will do my best within the year I have. I’m guided by the Premier’s vision of turning Serian into a ‘mini New Zealand.’

“Wherever we serve, it’s always Sarawak First, People First,” he added.
