MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) is committed to achieving Miri’s vision to be an internationally renowned Green, Smart, and Liveable City.

Deputy mayor Ariffin Mohammad said in moving towards this goal, the council is focusing on strengthening external relations to promote the city abroad.

“For example, MCC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish ‘Friendship City’ ties with cities abroad.

“This is part of a long-term commitment to achieve mutual benefits with various cities from abroad through friendly exchanges, cooperation and sharing of common interests covering economy, trade, science and technology, culture, education and tourism.

“Support from various stakeholders is very important in realising MCC’s wishes,” he said during the Miri City Sustainable Tourism Programme Seminar here on Tuesday (Feb 27).

On the seminar, Ariffin said it is an appropriate and relevant platform to meet and exchange ideas and initiatives, discuss tourism packages, infrastructure and deliberate on the best way to promote Miri as a tourism destination between MCC and strategic partners.

Meanwhile, he said based on the statistics, tourists from Brunei Darussalam makes up the largest group visiting Miri.

Therefore, he affirmed his commitment to attracting more tourists from home and abroad to the city, which is known as a beautiful, clean and beautiful city and rich in natural treasures of its diverse ethnic cultures.

As such, he called for collective action, stressing that successful tourism promotion requires all stakeholders to actively participate.

“It will not be successful without the participation of all parties.

“All parties should play their respective roles and not rely solely on the government’s efforts because it is the responsibility of all Miri citizens,” he added.
