MIRI: A joint celebration of Aidilfitri and pre-Gawai, organised by various government departments and agencies at Wisma Pelita Tunku, showcased the ongoing harmony and solidarity in Sarawak, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
During his address to inaugurate the event, he expressed that the gathering held profound significance as it exemplified the unity, harmony, and spirit of togetherness among the people of Sarawak.
“We live in a peaceful environment where we respect one another, despite our diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.”
Lee noted that the celebration, which brought together personnel from government agencies such as the Sarawak Rivers Board, the Land and Survey Department, the Rural Water Supply Department, and the Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB), served as a symbol of appreciation for the cultural diversity within the community.
“Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak are two of the state’s major festivals celebrated together at this event. This not only reflects cultural pride but also shared values such as gratitude, renewal, and a sense of belonging.”
He commended the collaboration among the participating agencies and departments, emphasising the importance of unity in achieving balanced and sustainable development.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Mohd Ariffin Bujang, assistant commissioner of the Sarawak Rivers Board; Miri Land and Survey officer Anthony Aboi; Lau Jing Teck from the Rural Water Supply Department; and Dr Nur Athirah Mohd Jazman from the Miri Veterinary Department.
