MIRI: The Borneo Star Drift Series (BSDS) 2025 has the potential to attract drift enthusiasts from across Southeast Asia while also creating economic impact.
Sarawak Motorsports Association (SMA) President, Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, said the event also could open career opportunities for local youths through the development of a motorsports ecosystem in Sarawak.
He also described the Permyjaya Miri Circuit as now regionally recognised as “The Sarawak Drift Capital”, serving as the season finale venue that gathers top drivers from various countries.
“Miri has been revitalised with a motorsports atmosphere. The presence of fans from within and outside the country not only energises the city but also contributes to local economic development,” he said.
Ahmad said this during a press conference for the final round of the Borneo Star Drift Series (BSDS) at Miri City Hall today.
He stressed that BSDS is not just an annual event but part of SMA’s long-term effort to build an inclusive motorsports ecosystem.
This includes marshal and judging training, the development of youth technical skills in automotive fields, and strengthening support industries such as spare parts businesses and food truck operations.
“This is the spirit of Sarawak motorsports – Segulai Sejalai on the Circuit,” he added.
Ahmad also announced the development of the Sarawak International Race Circuit as a multi-functional facility for drift, drag, autocross, cubprix and go-kart competitions.
SMA also aims to collaborate with TVET institutions to introduce training programmes in Motorsports Technology, creating real career pathways in mechanical engineering, media production and event management.
He therefore called for continued support from the corporate sector and the government to realise Sarawak’s vision of becoming the motorsports hub of Borneo and Southeast Asia.
The final round of BSDS 2025 runs from Nov 21 to 23 at the Permyjaya Circuit, Miri, with free admission for the public.
Various activities such as driver meet-and-greet sessions, car exhibitions, and exclusive giveaways are also provided, making this festival an exciting experience for the community and visitors.
