MIRI: Move over 3R concept, Miri City is now focusing on the 5R concept to educate its dwellers on waste management and keeping itself clean and green.
Met here today at the tree planting ceemoney at Lorong Tasik 1 Vista Perdana, Permyjaya here, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin revealed he was committed to the 5R concept which stood for Refuse, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle and Reduce. Meanwhile, the 3R concept refers to reduce, reuse and recycle.
“We are practising the 5R concept as part of our efforts to turn Miri City into a green city and a mini tracking park with more green spaces,” he explained.

“Since we pushed off with the tree planting project in 2017, we have set our target to plant 5,000 trees in Miri,” he said. In 2017, 2,050 trees were planted in Lutong.
In February this eyar, 160 trees planted in Vista Perdana while yesterday, 600 trees of the Tecoma and Bunga Tanjong species were planted at Lorong Tasik 1.
Today’s tree planting ceremony was a collaboration between Miri City Council (MCC) and Sarawak Teacher’s Training Institute (Miri) , SMK Lutong, Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) and Malaysian Red Crescent Miri Chapter.
A total of 50 people were involved in the event.
