MIRI: The Persatuan Prihatin Masyarakat Miri (PPMM) has stepped forward to support victims of floods and landslides by distributing essential supplies to six temporary relief centres (PPS) here.
The assistance has gone to PPS Red Crescent Centre ; Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu, Miri ; PPS Kampung Sukan Petronas, Miri ; PPS Masjid Darul Iman, Kampung Tudan Phase 2; PPS SK Agama, Miri; and PPS Balairaya Kampung Pujut Adong.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting and Mayor Adam Yii, visited the PPS at Petronas Miri Sports Village yesterday afternoon to assess the situation of evacuees.
During their visit, they also witnessed the official handover of donations from PPMM and JCI Riam Miri to those affected.
PPMM President, Lee Jun Tak, said that the donated items included baby formula, towels, blankets, pillows, plastic cups, mattresses, Milo, biscuits, instant noodles, clothing, and other essential daily supplies.
H said upon learning of the victims’ urgent needs, PPMM swiftly launched a donation drive to collect funds and supplies, ensuring rapid delivery to the PPS locations.
He praised the collective response from various sectors of the community, including voluntary organisations, NGOs, political parties, and individuals, all of whom contributed supplies and provided direct aid to affected areas.
“In addition to delivering goods to the PPS, the Miri Community Concern Association also visited flood-hit areas such as Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu to distribute clothing and essential items directly to victims,” he added.
Yii also extended his appreciation to all those who demonstrated the spirit of solidarity by assisting victims in their time of need.
Meanwhile, JCI Riam Miri participated in distributing aid at the Petronas Sports Village PPS later in the evening, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting disaster victims.
