MIRI: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri is set to host the Sarawak Lestari Forum on Wednesday (Apr 16), centring on the theme “Inclusive Growth: Leaving No One Behind.”
The forum, which will take place from 2 pm to 5 pm at the library’s auditorium, invites members of the public to participate in a timely and vital conversation about inclusivity and the rights of individuals with autism, particularly within the framework of Sarawak’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Aimed at fostering greater understanding and community action, the event will explore how society can play a more active role in ensuring that autistic individuals are not left behind in social and economic development.
Two speakers will headline the panel, including Hawary Sport Centre director Hamlatul Hawary Azizan, who is also a member of the Malaysia Swimming Teacher Association (MTSA), known for championing access to education and sports for those with disabilities and autism; and Dr Diana Wee Yuen Suan, visiting clinical psychologist and practising clinician at Columbia Asia Medical Centre Miri, who brings deep insights into mental health and developmental conditions.
Pustaka Miri librarian Dorithy Dela Lawrence said the forum reflects the library’s commitment to the SDG principle of inclusivity.
“Through this forum, we hope the community becomes more open-minded, aware, and supportive of efforts to ensure that no one is marginalised. It reflects our commitment to the principle of ‘Leaving No One Behind’ in Sarawak’s journey towards sustainable and inclusive development.”
