MIRI: A 32-year-old local man has been sentenced to four months in prison after admitting to using illegal drugs, with the court also ordering that he be placed under police supervision for two years upon his release.

The man pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court to an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, for taking drugs without lawful authority.

Court records show that he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine following an initial urine screening conducted by police on Oct 25, 2025. The result was later confirmed by a government chemist from the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital.

In delivering sentence, the court imposed a custodial term of four months and ordered that the accused be subjected to police supervision for a period of two years after completing his jail sentence.

Police said the case underscored the authorities’ continued crackdown on drug abuse, which they described as a serious offence with far-reaching consequences for individuals, families and the wider community.

They added that enforcement efforts in the district would be intensified as part of ongoing measures to curb drug-related activities.

Members of the public with information on drug abuse or trafficking have been urged to come forward and assist the police in their investigations.
