MIRI: Five schools and religious institutions in Miri have received RM120,000 in federal funding to upgrade facilities and purchase equipment, in what local leaders described as a timely boost for the community.
The allocation, channelled through the People-Friendly Projects (Projek Mesra Rakyat) under the Miri parliamentary constituency, was announced by Miri Member of Parliament (MP), Chiew Choon Man.
Beneficiaries include BEM Glory Permy, Agape Kingdom Church Permy, Gereja BEM Pujut 2 Mandarin, SJK (C) Chung Hua Krokop Miri, and SJK (C) Chung San.
According to Chiew, the funds will be used for urgent needs such as basic maintenance, public address systems, school desks and chairs, and other equipment intended to directly benefit local communities.
“Supporting educational and religious institutions is a vital social investment,” Chiew said.
“Schools must have a comfortable, conducive environment to shape the future of our children, while houses of worship serve as community hubs that strengthen social and spiritual bonds.”
Chiew added that his approach to constituency development would remain inclusive, consistent with the Malaysia MADANI framework that emphasises shared progress and social harmony.
“I am committed to ensuring that facilities in Miri remain in good condition and accessible to all, regardless of race or religion,” he said.
The MP also thanked local stakeholders for working with his office to ensure the allocations were distributed smoothly and to the right recipients.
He pledged to continue advocating for better public facilities and community welfare in Miri.
