MIRI: A total of 31 events have been lined up for this year’s Miri Mayfest, which will be held throughout the month of May in celebration of Miri City’s 20th anniversary.
Mayor Adam Yii made the announcement today during the official launch of Mayfest 2025, describing it as a particularly meaningful edition of the city’s annual celebration.
“This year’s Mayfest is truly special as it coincides with Miri City’s 20th anniversary, a significant milestone that invites us to reflect on our journey as a city and look forward to greater achievements ahead,” he said.
He said Mayfest is not just a festive tradition but a vibrant platform that brings together people, cultures, talents and ideas.
“It allows us to showcase the best of Miri’s diversity and foster a sense of unity by involving communities from all walks of life,” he said.
Programmes submitted by various associations and organisers range from cultural showcases, sporting competitions and exhibitions to carnivals, food fairs, charity drives and community engagement initiatives.
“These events are designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring there is something meaningful and enjoyable for all age groups and interests,” he added.
One of the key highlights this year is the Multiracial Unity Carnival, a 10-day celebration aimed at promoting harmony and inclusiveness.
The carnival will feature a wide array of activities to engage the public, culminating in a Concert Rakyat headlined by popular singer Baby Shima, alongside other local talents.
Yii also encouraged continued participation from associations, organisations and individuals to propose events that bring communities closer, nurture unity, and create a stronger sense of belonging.
“Let us focus on programmes that uplift, empower, and give back to the community, especially those that support the underprivileged,” he said.
Also present at the launch were Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad, city councillors and event sponsors.
