Miri’s drift showdown: RM16,000 prize awaits

KUCHING: The Borneo Star Drift Series x National Drift Series Borneo Super GP Final is set to heat up Miri’s Permyjaya Race Track from December 13-15, with top drivers’ from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United States vying for the RM16,000 prize pool.

The president of the Sarawak Motorsports Association, Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the event, set to be held at the Miri Permyjaya Race Track from Dec 13 to Dec 15, would come alive with the sights and sounds of world-class drifting, showcasing the immense talent and passion that define the sport.

“Motorsports, particularly drifting, is a dynamic arena that transcends the boundaries of skill and creativity.

“It is a discipline that demands precision, control, and unwavering focus, and events like this serve as a testament towards the extraordinary capabilities of our athletes,” he said at a press conference last Thursday.

Ahmad also praised the efforts of local motorsports clubs, including the Kuching Drift Crew (KDC), Exquisite Motorsports Club, and Sidewayz Squad, for organising the event. He expressed gratitude to Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, as well as to the event’s sponsors and supporters.

The RM16,000 prize, Ahmad said, was a fitting recognition of the dedication and skill displayed by the competitors. He urged participants to give their best and inspire others through their performances.

The press conference was attended Joshua Philip, Sarawak Sports Council High Performance Division head, and Andy Chong, event chairman.

The event promises to be a thrilling celebration of motorsports, and fans are encouraged to join the excitement at the Miri Permyjaya Race Track.
