MIRI: Sarawak’s Fadzly Nadzier has clinched the Rage Flyweight main event crown after defeating Filipino fighter Francis Ian by unanimous decision in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 23.

The 168cm fighter from Warmonger Fight Gym outpointed his 172cm opponent in the cage, securing the title and boosting his profile as one of the state’s brightest prospects in mixed martial arts (MMA).

The victory not only earned him the Rage Flyweight main event title, but also proved that athletes from Miri have what it takes to compete and triumph, both on the national and international stage.

Warmonger head coach Gavin Mattu said Fadzly’s discipline and work ethic were key factors in the victory.

“All the coaches are so happy with the progress he’s been making in MMA.

“His hard work and dedication to training, and to every aspect of the sport, show just how committed and teachable he is.

“Not only as a fighter but also as a leader and inspiration in the gym, for Miri, and for Sarawak,” Gavin told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today (Sept 6).

The victory also marks a pivotal step in Fadzly’s career, as he now gears up for his flyweight showdown against Indonesian opponent Rico, scheduled for Oct 12 in Kuala Lumpur.

Beyond his accomplishments in the cage, Fadzly has become a role model for younger athletes in Sarawak, embodying the values of resilience, humility and discipline.

His success is seen by many as a catalyst to encourage more youths in Miri and across the state to take up MMA and combat sports as a pathway for both personal growth and competitive achievement.

As he prepares for his upcoming international test, the Miri fighter remains focused on sharpening his skills and carrying Sarawak’s fighting spirit onto the global stage.
