MIRI: The Miss Petite Continental Malaysia 2025 pageant was officially launched on Thursday, marking its third consecutive year here and reinforcing the city’s growing profile as a hub for tourism, culture and creative arts in Sarawak.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, said the event reflects Miri’s cultural diversity and its potential as a destination for creative and lifestyle-driven tourism.
His speech text was read by Miri City Council (MMC) member, Tan Lek Jin, at a press conference here on Thursday.
Ting expressed appreciation to Miss Petite Continental Malaysia’s chairman and organisation president, Brenda Yeo, for organising the event, which is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP).
“As a Mirian, I am proud that this event is organised in Miri. It provides a platform to showcase our culture, arts and ethnic diversity while encouraging visitors to explore the city and create lasting memories,” he said.
He added that the pageant has shown steady improvement each year, particularly in terms of organisation, presentation and hospitality, and congratulated Brenda’s Art Paradise Management for its efforts.
Ting also announced that the winner of Miss Petite Continental Malaysia 2025 will be appointed as an Ambassador of Miri City, in line with the state’s aim to strengthen tourism branding through high-visibility events.
He encouraged all contestants to uphold discipline, comply with competition guidelines, and play an active role in promoting Miri as a preferred destination in Sarawak.
The grand finale will be held at the Meritz Hotel Ballroom on December 20.
Meanwhile, in a separate message, Miri City Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang, congratulated the organisers on the successful staging of the third edition of the pageant, which is endorsed by the MCC.
Yii, who was represented by Councillor Yee Chung Meng, said the event aligns with the city council’s vision of celebrating multiculturalism and creative expression, noting that pageant winners can serve as positive role models for younger generations.
He expressed hope that this year’s winner would bring greater impact to the title and work closely with the organisers in supporting community and promotional initiatives.
A total of eight contestants are competing in this year’s Miss Petite Continental Malaysia pageant.
