Missing boater found 15 km down river after three-day search

BETONG: The body of a 20-year-old man feared drowned after a speedboat testing incident in Ulu Sungai Skrang was found this morning (Feb 20), about 15 kilometres (km) from the search command post.

The victim, identified as Denickles Lesen, had been reported missing on Wednesday (Feb 18) after the boat he was testing was believed to have capsized.

Witnesses said the victim was seen struggling in the water before disappearing from sight at about 3.51 pm.

Search and rescue (SAR) operations entered the third day today, involving the Fire and Rescue Department’s water rescue unit (PPDA), K9 unit, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Rela and villagers.

The K9 cadaver dog unit, including detection dog Bella, was deployed to assist in the operations.

The body was found at 10.50 am and identified by family members at the scene.

It was later handed over to police for further action before it was transported to Sri Aman Hospital via river. The operations were officially called off at noon.
