BETONG: An octogenarian reported missing after leaving his home at Rumah Sawing Merutih, Ulu Skrang on Nov 26, was found in a weak condition this morning (Nov 28).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that 82-year-old Gelau Rayang was found by members of the public at 8.30 am in an oil palm plantation, about four hours’ walk from his house.
Rescuers rushed to the scene to rescue him from the plantation and transported him to Rh Lampas Titok Atas, Engkelili. There, he was handed over to Civil Defence Force (APM) for transfer to Betong Hospital.
Now that he has been found, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 12.05 pm.
Gelau, who was last seen on Nov 26 at around 9 am, was wearing a blue shirt and black pants with red stripes.
Neighbours reported seeing him walking uphill, possibly towards a farm, about 2km from the longhouse. Concerned for his well-being, his family lodged a missing person report on Wednesday (Nov 27) at 8.11 pm.
Firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call from Skrang police at 9.57 pm.
