SRI AMAN: A 75-year-old woman was found deceased after going missing in a forested area near Kampung Bua, Tr. Alow, Engkilili.

Melaya Brayun, an Iban woman, was last seen leaving her longhouse at 1.00 am on January 21 wearing a green floral top and black shorts.

Initial searches by her family and villagers around the longhouse were unsuccessful, prompting a report to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Search and rescue (SAR) operations commenced the following morning, covering both upstream and downstream areas along the Batang Lupar River.

A rescue boat and other resources were deployed to assist in the operation.

At around 11.13 am, Melaya was spotted by a civilian fishing near Stuga Bridge, approximately seven to eight kilometres from where she was last seen.

She was subsequently recovered and handed over to the police, with her identity confirmed by family members shortly after.

The operation faced challenges due to poor forest coverage and limited mobile network connectivity, which hampered communication during the search.

The case has been handed over to the police for further action.
