MIRI: The search for Dawellies Luing, 46, ended on Friday afternoon when his body was discovered in the remote Sungai Sengayan area, Long Jekitan, Ulu Baram.
He was swept away by powerful river currents nearly a week earlier.
Authorities from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre confirmed that Dawellies’ body was found at 2.00 pm, approximately seven kilometres downstream from the site of the accident.
The incident occurred on the morning of April 14, when Dawellies and his nine-year-old daughter, Vallerie Mentie Dawellies, attempted to cross Sungai Sengayan in a single-cab 4×4 vehicle.
Tragically, both were swept away by the surging waters.
Vallerie’s body was recovered later that same day, two kilometres downstream from the initial location.
Search efforts had been ongoing since the tragedy, with local authorities and rescue teams working tirelessly to locate Dawellies.
Dawellies’ body has been handed over to the police for further action.
