MUKAH: A local man who was reported missing after falling from a boat at the Batang Oya estuary, has been found dead this morning (Jan 4).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Awang Ismail Awang Rosidi, 28, was discovered by members of the public at 8.50 am.
Rescuers were later deployed to the scene to retrieve the body, about 800 metres from the shoreline.
His body was handed over to the police and taken to Mukah Hospital for a post-mortem.
Following the discovery, the search and rescue operation (SAR) was officially called off at 9.40am.
Awang Ismail was reported missing yesterday (Jan 3) after he was believed to have fallen from a boat while alone at the Batang Oya estuary.
The incident was believed to have occurred near a jellyfish processing factory in the area.
His disappearance was reported by his wife to the police, prompting a SAR operation to be launched involving firefighters, police and local residents.
