Missing man found dead in deep ravine

KAPIT: A local man who had been missing for over a week, was found dead at the bottom of a 100-metre deep ravine along Jalan Baleh Dam near Rumah Biduk, Nanga Sebetung yesterday (Aug 16).

The victim, identified as Pika Rangga, 54, from Rumah Sura, Kerangan Bangat Ulu, had been missing since Aug 9.

He was last seen leaving Kapit market in a purple Perodua Bezza at around 3.50 am after dropping off a friend at a rented house.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said authorities were alerted of an accident along Jalan Baleh Dam at 3.06 pm and firefighters from Kapit station were deployed to the scene, about 61km from town.

Upon arrival, rescuers found a car at the bottom of a steep ravine, with the victim’s body found some 50 metres away from the wreck.

Paramedics later confirmed that the victim died at the scene and his remains were lifted out before being handed over to the police.

The operation ended at 4.35pm.

Meanwhile, police said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.

The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR) pending post-mortem.
