KUCHING: Relief came to Kampung Pasir Pandak as two five-year-old girls, reported missing yesterday, have been found safe and sound this morning (Dec 7).

Tears of relief as one of the girls is safely reunited with her family.

Humaira Qalesya Mohd Dir and Nur Ashafieyah Aisyah Abdul Nasri Ashrafie were discovered by villagers at around 9.05 am at Batu Gelingan near the beach.

Both girls were shivering from the cold but unharmed, about 1km from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the girls were taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further medical checks.

Following their safe discovery, the operation ended at 10.06 am.

Yesterday (Dec 6), the girls were reportedly seen walking from their homes at around 9 am to play with their cousin at their grandmother’s house a short distance away.

About two hours later, the families realised the girls were nowhere to be found. They scoured the village throughout the morning, while more villagers joined the search in the afternoon — but no trace was found.

A police report was later filed at around 6 pm, prompting the activation of a multi-agency SAR operation involving firefighters, police, K9 unit and Civil Defence Force (APM).
