DARO: A 53-year-old woman who was reported missing after entering a forested area in Kampung Betanak, Beruit, on Monday was found safe at 12.09 pm today (Feb 24).
Suriya Merais had gone into the forest to collect fruits with 10 others but failed to return, triggering a search and rescue (SAR) operation involving multiple agencies.
On the second day of the operation, search teams discovered clues believed to have been left behind by the victim, including asam paya fruits inside a sack, before locating her safe in the forest.
The SAR operation involved 95 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), police, the Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), the Pulau Bruit Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) and villagers, covering a six-kilometre search radius.
