MIRI: Fire and Rescue personnel in Miri located three women who were reported missing while hiking at Canada Hill on Sunday evening (Dec 7).
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre, a distress call was received at 6.28 pm. A team from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue station was deployed and reached the area three minutes later.
Initial information from a friend of the hikers indicated that the trio, believed to be in their 30s, had failed to emerge at the designated exit checkpoint after their trek. Rescuers began a targeted search based on the coordinates provided and established contact with the group shortly after arrival.
The operations commander, PBK I Robinson Anyie Danyin, led the team in escorting the women down to the first checkpoint. All three were confirmed safe and did not require medical attention.
The operation ended at 7.37 pm.
Six personnel, and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle, were involved.
