KUCHING: The Sungai Maong Kiri Flood Mitigation Plan, once completed and implemented, will resolve the recurring flash flooding issue in Kota Sentosa.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the conceptual report for the plan is currently being prepared by the appointed consultants.

“The report will cover conceptual design options for the affected areas, along with a cost-benefit analysis of each option.

“It is expected to be completed and presented to the Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) Sarawak on or before Feb 24,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The progress was among the matters discussed during a recent Technical Committee Meeting on the flood mitigation plan, chaired by DID deputy director Law Wee.

The meeting focused on the preliminary report prepared by Jurutera KAC Sdn Bhd, the appointed consultants.

The report aims to formalise flood mitigation solutions through a comprehensive and cost-effective scheme, which would include solutions on engineering works, drainage improvements, structural and non-structural flood control methods, and landscaping.

Yap said the plan will address flood-prone areas in Kota Sentosa, including Taman Happy Valley, Jalan Tun Jugah, Taman Hui Sing, Lorong Hup Kee 10, Lorong Durian Burung Quarters, and Borneo Garden, Off Jalan Lapangan Terbang.

He also reassured residents of his commitment to resolving infrastructure, traffic, drainage, and housing issues for the comprehensive development of his constituency.

“It is hoped that Sarawakians will not be swayed by unfounded criticism, rhetoric, or sensationalism from the opposition.

“Instead, let us stand united in recognising the accomplishments of GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) under the visionary leadership of Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) and support his ongoing efforts to lead Sarawak into a prosperous future,” he added.

Previously, it was reported that the flood mitigation project costing RM120.5 million will be physically implemented by the second quarter of 2025, and expected to complete within 24 months.
