MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri Zone has recorded a total seizure value of RM15,110,076.20 for 2024.
This was disclosed by MMEA Miri deputy operations director Mahkos Juing.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Mahkos said court fines amounted to RM13,711,000, vessel forfeitures (RM898,000), seizures (RM415,000), proceeds from oil auctions (RM75,796.80), and compounds (RM5,000).
This year, a total of 152 individuals have been arrested in connection with maritime offences. The breakdown includes 27 Malaysians, 36 Vietnamese, 67 Indonesians, 11 Myanmar nationals, and 11 Indian nationals.
In 2024, the Miri Maritime Zone recorded 33 offences, with the majority falling under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance (13 cases). M
Other offences include violations of the Fisheries Act 1985 by foreign fishermen (eight cases) and local fishermen (six), Customs Act 1967 (two), and one case each under the Supply Control Act 1961, the Communications and Multimedia Act, the Veterans Ordinance Act 1999, and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
