SERIAN: The adoption of modern aquaculture technology is playing a key role in strengthening Sarawak’s inland fisheries sector, as seen in the Red Tilapia Inland Fisheries Project operated by Syarikat Sarafish Sdn Bhd in Kampung Cina Buntak, Bedup.

Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom paid a visit to the project site on Monday (April 21) to observe the use of modern technology to enhance fish yield and operational efficiency in freshwater farming.

Located about 65km from Kuching, the project is part of a broader initiative to develop Sarawak’s aquaculture industry through sustainable and technology-driven practices.

In addition to fish farming, the company also runs a cold storage facility that supports their product distribution system efficiently.

Sarafish Sdn Bhd, recognised for its expertise in tilapia farming, has set a production target of 100 tonnes annually, contributing significantly to both local food supply and the rural economy.

The delegation also included Deputy Minister Datuk Martin Ben, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, Serian Division Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph, Serian Division Agriculture officer Willie Peter, and other officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
