BALINGIAN: The introduction of modern technology in rice farming continues to drive paddy cultivation by boosting productivity, reducing reliance on manual labour and empowering rural farmers.

Balingian assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, said the initiative to introduce modern machinery to farmers is a key government effort to modernise the agricultural sector and enhance the competitiveness of Sarawak’s rice industry.

“The use of technology not only simplifies planting and paddy field management, but it also improves work efficiency and provides better returns for our farmers,” he said during the ‘Rice Planting Machinery Demonstration and Trial’ session at Rumah Ulin, Sungai Nawan, Kuala Balingian on Thursday (July 16).

Abdul Yakub added that this initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s continuous commitment to adopting modern technology to strengthen food security and elevate the income of local farmers.

As part of the programme, residents of Rumah Ulin attended a training course conducted by the Sarawak Agriculture Department.

The session included both theoretical briefings and practical demonstrations on how to operate, utilise, and maintain the newly introduced rice-planting machinery.

The programme aims to equip local farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle the machinery effectively and safely, ensuring they fully benefit from the technological advancement.
