BINTULU: Sarawakian, Mohamad Daud Ahmad, has made the state proud after being crowned champion of the 39th National Independence Poetry Recitation Competition 2025, recently held at the Grand Swiss-Belhotel, Melaka.

An officer with the Enforcement Section of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), he captivated the panel of judges with his rendition of ‘Rukun Yang Kita Yakini’ (The Pillars We Believe In), a poem by Abdul Hadi Yusoff, which he delivered with deep expression and patriotic spirit.
Mohamad Daud, who ventured into the world of poetry in 2003, described this success as the fruit of perseverance and steadfast dedication throughout more than two decades of involvement in the art of recitation.
“Alhamdulillah, after more than 20 years in the world of poetry and having represented Sarawak at the national level in 2006, 2009 and 2018, finally this year Allah has granted me the fortune to emerge as champion.
“This victory is thanks to the support from my family, friends, fellow declaimers, and the BDA management,” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak.
He also expressed his gratitude to the National Writers Association of Malaysia (GAPENA) as the organiser, the panel of judges, and all who have supported his journey in the world of poetry.
“This achievement is not merely a personal recognition but a catalyst to further uphold the art of poetry in the nation, ignite the younger generation’s love for cultural heritage, and elevate the spirit of Malaysia MADANI through the medium of art,” he said.
The competition, organised by GAPENA, remains the nation’s premier platform for showcasing the best talents to elevate the stature of independence-themed poetry.
