KUCHING: Mohd Syafiq Mohammad Razali has made history as the youngest-ever councillor appointed to the Council of the City of Kuching South (MBKS) for the 2025-2028 term.
At just 28, the Kuching-born youth is no stranger to community engagement, having been actively involved in various grassroot initiatives over the years.
Mohd Syafiq’s appointment signals a growing shift in political will to involve younger generations in policymaking and urban development.
“It means a lot to me to be given this opportunity,” said Mohd Syafiq.
His works have earned him a reputation as a proactive and approachable figure among residents.
“I didn’t expect to become the youngest councillor, but I’m incredibly thankful for the support and trust given by the local government, leaders and community,” he added.
Acknowledging that he still has much to learn, Mohd Syafiq expressed his commitment to serve with sincerity and fairness.
“I hope this encourages other young people to believe that they can make a difference too, no matter their age,” he added.
He also credited his family and friends for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
“Thank you for believing in me and reminding me of the values that brought me here today,” he said.
As part of his term, Mohd Syafiq aims to focus on youth empowerment, sustainable urban development, and strengthening community engagement across Kuching.
As Kuching continues to evolve, the presence of a younger councillor in MBKS has been warmly welcomed.
