SIMANGGANG: Parents need to be more prepared when children get older and move into their next phase of growing up, especially after circumcision.

Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said in the villages, circumcision is usually considered the beginning of a child becoming ‘single’ even though it does not mean that a person has reached puberty.

“The meaning of the interpretation is that after circumcision, the child is single … and in this phase, the children’s excitement to try something new is very high.

“That’s why during the process of growing, parental supervision is very important.

“Sometimes they themselves (children) when circumcised will consider themselves out of childhood, and free to do anything.

“For me this is quite dangerous, therefore the responsibility of parents to guide their children in matters of religion is very important so that they are not easily tempted by bad social symptoms,” he said.

He said this after the Perdana 2023 Circumcision Programme at Bandar Sri Aman Mosque, on Saturday.

“So clearly, it is necessary to pay attention to who they are friends with,” he said, adding, “one of the main factors children get stuck with social issues is the influence of friends.”

“We don’t want the child to be ‘single’, beset with various problems.

“I hope that we are all responsible. God willing, children who are born like white cloth can be patterned with beautiful colourful paintings that will make them useful people one day.

“Successful children will be able to serve their family, community, state and country,” he said.

Shafizan expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in the success of the circumcision programme involving 117 children, especially the Sri Aman Betong Malay Brotherhood Association, the Bandar Sri Aman Mosque Management Committee and other agencies.

Programme co-chairman Dr Zulwali Kipli Merawi was also present.
