KUCHING: Cooperation between Sarawak and China is expected to lead to increase Sarawak’s exports of new products, including methanol, to the country.
Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Xing Weiping said the partnership would also see more Chinese enterprises in the state which would lead to enhanced cooperation in fields such as infrastructure construction, new energy, digital economy, education, and agriculture.
“The Chinese Consulate-General in Kuching is willing to join hands with the Sarawak government and all sectors to jointly create a brighter future for China-Sarawak relations,” he said.
He said this during the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions’ Chinese New Year dinner reception here last night (Feb 12).
Xing also said China and Sarawak enjoy profound political mutual trust, deep understanding and affinity between its two peoples.
“China-Sarawak relations enjoy unique and sound conditions for further development. Looking ahead to the new year, I am full of confidence and expectations for the cooperation between China and Sarawak,” he said.
On China-Malaysia ties, he said it has made steady progress during the past year despite the challenges posed by the international situation.
“Annual bilateral trade has surpassed USD 212 billion, with China remaining Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the 16th consecutive year.
“With the implementation of the visa exemption policy, people-to-people exchanges between China and Malaysia have been continuously expanding and the two peoples have become closer and closer,” he said.
He said China’s development is an opportunity rather than a challenge for Malaysia as well as Sarawak.
“Some people may worry about being too dependent on the Chinese market. These concerns are unnecessary because China pursues a peaceful foreign policy and resolutely opposes hegemonism and power politics.
“China does not hinder the development of other countries. Instead, it helps them grow,” he said.
Xing added China views the earth as a shared home and views humanity as a community with a shared future.
“We deeply understand that China can only do well when the world is doing well. When China does well, the world will get even better,” he said.
